Loren’s Badass Chick: Julie Jackson

This week’s Badass Chick is Julie Jackson of Needham.

In 2012, her father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was given six months to live. Julie and her family were fortunate enough to have three more years with her father, but Julie knows that’s not the norm – and she is fighting hard to secure more funding for pancreatic cancer research in hopes of preventing any other family from going through what her family went through.

She’s been the event chair for the Purple Stride walk, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s annual fundraiser, for the last two years – and her team alone has raised over $40,000. Julie is constantly bringing awareness to the subject and is stepping it up a (big!) notch next weekend by speaking with Congress. She is heading to DC, where she and her mother – along with many other passionate Americans – will have the opportunity to try and secure more federal funding for the National Institute of Health and the National Cancer Institute, both of which largely impact the progress of pancreatic cancer research.

Julie has an infectious spirit and I love how she’s dedicating so much of her life in honor of her father.

If you want to donate to Julie’s cause or attend her charity yoga class, it’s a great way to support her cause!

Loren’s Badass Chick of the Week highlights local women and girls giving back to the community, following their passion and/or breaking stereotypes. If YOU have a Badass Chick you want to see highlighted, email Loren@1033ampradio.com!
